Learning Outcomes

The goal of the Combined BA/MD Degree Program is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and principles to be exemplary medical students and physicians who serve the needs of New Mexico.

 To meet this goal, students will master the following learning outcomes:

    1. Identify and analyze health systems and the social determinants of health in the context of social and cultural diversity in New Mexico.
    2. Interpret data and evidence related to medicine and health and communicate in written and verbal form the results.
    3. Apply basic principles from biology, chemistry and physics to understanding living systems.
    4. Apply quantitative reasoning to describe or explain phenomena in the natural world.
    5. Integrate skills and knowledge of different disciplinary perspectives in the humanities and social sciences and apply them to specific health issues.
    6. Identify and articulate their most effective learning strategies, as well as their strengths and weaknesses as learners.
    7. Students will be able to identify the ethically salient features of an issue in contemporary bioethics and analyze it from more than one perspective.
